After months of rumors and leaked, Xiaomi has launched the successor of the Redmi Note 4. The company has launched the Redmi Note 5 in India at a starting price of Rs. 9,999 and the Note 5 Pro at a starting price of Rs 13,999. The company’s India head Manu Kumar Jain and product manager Jai Mani taking the stage to showcase the device. The biggest change in the new smartphone compared to its predecessor, Redmi Note 4 is the bezel-less design, 18:9 aspect ratio, and larger 5.99-inch display. The Redmi Note 5 Pro with up to 6GB RAM and dual rear cameras was also unveiled at the event. However, launching the Redmi 5 Plus as the Redmi Note 5 in India might be a surprise for many.

Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 features a 5.99-inch FHD+ 2160 x 1080px resolution display with an 18:9 aspect ratio. Under the hood, the Redmi Note 5 is powered by an octa-core Snapdragon 625 SoC, clocked at up to 2GHz, coupled with the Adreno 506 GPU. Redmi Note 5 available in two variants – 3GB RAM + 32GB storage, and 4GB RAM + 64GB storage. There is not much of an upgrade here, as the Redmi Note 4 also powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 625 chipset.
On the camera front, the smartphone sports a 12-megapixel sensor with f/2.2 aperture, 1.25-micron pixel size, PDAF, and supports EIS (Electronics Image Stabilisation) alongside sporting an LED flash. The company spoke about its HDR algorithm that enhances photos to deliver improved quality over the previous models in this range and it also packs a 5-megapixel front camera with LED flash, Beautify 3.0 and 1080p video recording at 30fps.
The Redmi Note 5 is powered by a massive 4000 mAh battery with 5V/2A fast charging. The company claims that it can deliver up to 14 hours of video playback, 27 hours of audio, and nearly 8 hours of continuous gaming. The smartphone feature a rear placed fingerprint scanner and supports connectivity options include 4G VoLTE, Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, Bluetooth, 3.5mm headphone jack, and Micro-USB. The handset measures 158.5×75.45×8.05mm and weigh 180 grams.
The phones will run on Android 7.1.2 Nougat overlayed with Xiaomi’s MIUI 9 skin. The device will be available in Black, Gold, Rose Gold and Blue color models will be available exclusively from Flipkart, Mi.com. Mi Homes and will go on its first sale starting February 22. Jio is also offering a Rs 2,200 cashback with the device along with 100 percent free 4G data.
The smartphone manufacturer has priced the Redmi Note 5 at Rs 9,999 for the 3GB RAM/32GB ROM variant, whereas it will cost Rs 11,999 for the 4GB RAM/64GB ROM model.

Xiaomi has launched a ‘Pro’ version of the Redmi Note 5 in India at a launch event in Delhi. The Redmi Note 5 Pro will go on sale in India at a starting price of Rs. 13999 via Flipkart, mi.com, and offline retail partners. The first sale will take place on the 22nd of February. The company also claims that the Redmi Note 5 Pro has better hardware and camera performance than the Redmi Note 5.
The Redmi Note 5 Pro looks very similar to the Redmi Note 5. It has a 5.99-inch display with a 2160 x 1080px resolution and 18:9 aspect ratio that like the Redmi Note 5. On the back side, Xiaomi vertically placed dual-camera setup which looks similar to the iPhone X. Even the LED flash is placed between the two sensors, like the iPhone X.
The Redmi Note 5 Pro powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 636 chipset with Adreno 509 GPU. The Redmi Note 5 Pro will be available in two variants, 4GB RAM/64GB storage, and 6GB RAM/64GB storage.
As the camera is the main focus of this device, It has a 20MP Sony IMX376 camera on the front with an LED light. It comes with Beautify 4.0 software which will result in better portrait mode photos, the company claims. To the back, It is a 12MP color sensor f/2.2 and 5MP f/2.0 color sensor setup. The smartphone will click portrait mode photos from the front and rear cameras.
