Back in September last year, HMD Global launched the Nokia 8. Today, at MWC 2018, the company has launched a new variant of the smartphone. The Nokia 8 Sirocco marks the return of the ‘Sirocco’ brand, which takes us back to 2006 when the Nokia 8800 Sirocco Edition was launched. Basically a premium variant of the Nokia 8800 Similarly, the new Nokia 8 Sirocco too is a premium variant of the Nokia 8 smartphone.
HMD Global describes the Nokia 8 Sirocco’s design as ‘inspired by the rich design heritage of Nokia phones, the Nokia 8 Sirocco’s elegant design and compact style is the ideal blend of precise craftsmanship and purposeful innovation’. The smartphone gets a curved glass finish with a stainless steel frame and is only 2mm thin at the edge. The company claims that the stainless steel frame is 2.5 times stronger than 6,000 series aluminum. The device is also IP67 certified making it resistant to water and dust.

As far as specifications are concerned, the Nokia 8 Sirocco flaunts a 5.5-inch edge-to-edge 2K resolution display with Corning Gorilla Glass 5 protection.
Under the hood is Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 835 SoC paired with 6GB RAM. There is 128GB internal storage. For photography, the smartphone is equipped with the dual-camera setup at the back, which is the same as the Nokia 7 Plus. The smartphone runs on Android Oreo out-of-the-box and is a part of Google’s Android One initiative. This means the smartphone runs on stock Android.
The Nokia 8 Sirocco will go on sale in select markets sometime in early April. There is no word on when the smartphone will be launched in India. As for pricing, the device will retail at €749 (Rs 59,500 approximately).
