After countless leaks, Samsung has launched the Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9+ at Mobile World Congress (MWC) event in Barcelona. The design, specifications, and a lot of the features were leaked ahead of the launch.

The Samsung Galaxy S9 and the Galaxy S9+ succeeds the Galaxy S8 and S8+ as the 2018 flagship phones. Unlike the previous generation smartphones, the Samsung Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9+ have more differences than just the display and battery sizes. As expected, the Samsung Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9+ look extremely similar to their predecessors Galaxy S8 and S8+. The bezels are slightly thinner but, they look similar as compared to its predecessors at least from the front. To the back of the devices is where you see the difference. The Galaxy S9 and S9+ come with a fingerprint sensor placed below the camera module which is the best placement for a rear-facing fingerprint sensor.

The Galaxy S9 is priced at US$ 719.99 for the unlocked version in the US. However, the starting price of the Galaxy S9+ is US$ 839.99. The smartphones will go on sale on the 16th of March globally. In India, the devices will be launched on the 6th of March and go on sale on the 16th of March along with the rest of the world. The devices will be available in Midnight Black, Titanium Grey, Coral Blue, and Lilac Purple

Samsung Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9+

The Samsung Galaxy S9 has a 5.8 inch Super AMOLED display, while the Galaxy S9+ sports a slightly bigger 6.2-inch Super AMOLED display Infinity display with QuadHD+ resolution, Corning Gorilla Glass 5 protection, 18.5:9 aspect ratio, and HDR support.

Both the phones are powered by the flagship Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 SoC and Samsung’s Exynos 9810. Depending on the market the Galaxy S9’s chipset will vary. For the US and South Korean market, the S9 will be powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 chipset. For the rest of the world, it will be powered by the new Exynos 9810 chipset.

While the Galaxy S9 comes with 4GB of RAM and 64GB of internal storage, the Galaxy S9+ offers 6GB of RAM and 64GB of internal storage. Both these devices come with hybrid SIM card slot for further expanding the storage up to 400GB. The devices will be running on the latest Android 8.0 Oreo out of the box with the all-new Samsung Experience UI laid on top.

Talking about the cameras, the Galaxy S9 comes only with a 12MP single camera. On the other hand, the Galaxy S9+ sports 12MP dual rear (regular + telephoto lens) cameras with dual OIS. The primary 12MP rear camera on both the devices will support all-new dual aperture mode where the user can choose between the f/1.5 or f/2.4 aperture. The devices will also support 4K video recording and 720p super slow motion at 960 fps.

Both the devices come with 8MP autofocus selfie camera with f/1.7 aperture. With the Galaxy S9, Samsung is introducing new AR Emoji feature, which adds Animoji-like animations to the Bitmoji’s custom stickers. The user can create the 3D map of their face using the front-facing camera for animated emojis. These emojis can also be shared as GIFs on other messaging apps like WhatsApp and Messenger. The users also get the desktop experience with their Galaxy S9 devices by connecting it to the Samsung Dex Pad.

There are also stereo speakers on the top and bottom tuned by AKG. Both the devices are also water and dust resistant, thanks to the IP68 certification. On the battery front, the Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9+ are backed by 3,000mAh and 3,500mAh batteries respectively.
