Today at MWC 2018 in Barcelona Sony announced its latest flagship Android phones, the Xperia XZ2 and XZ2 Compact. Both new Sony phones are powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 845 processor, the latest and greatest silicon that will be inside most of 2018’s Android flagships. They’re scheduled to ship this spring, with pricing to be announced later.

Sony Xperia XZ2 comes with 5.7 inches the Full HD HDR display whereas Xperia XZ2 Compact comes with a   5.0 inches the Full HD HDR display. With official HDR support from streaming services like Netflix and Amazon. The device can even upscale content to create a faux-HDR effect. This display has an aspect ratio of 18:9 as well, so you won’t have to worry about missing out on the latest generation of thin-bezel phones.

The XZ2’s hardware still includes a dedicated camera shutter button, and like last year’s XZ Premium. It has a 19-megapixel sensor inside. When shooting 4K video, the camera is now capable of capturing HDR color, and the ultra slo-mo mode can record 960fps footage at a higher 1080p resolution.  And for fans of Sony’s fun 3D Creator face-scanning app, that now works with the front-facing selfie camera. (Previously you had to use the primary camera.)

Both the phones are powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 845 processor, come with 4 GB of RAM, and 64 GB of internal storage. There’s even microSD compatibility, so you can store as much media as you want on this thing provided you’ve got a card large enough. The Xperia XZ2 has a 3,180 mAh battery whereas Xperia XZ2 Compact has a 2,870 mAh Non-removable battery and both devices support wireless charging and Qualcomm Quick Charge 3.0.

A few highlights include the use of a new haptic motor that is supposed to allow you to feel with your fingers what you hear with your eyes, dual stereo speakers (front facing!), and a DAC. Also, Sony dropped the 3.5 mm audio jack. That said, the DAC inside the phone means you should be able to get high-quality sound with any dongle.
